Everything you need to start using Clipboard Translator, configure providers, understand the editions and solve the most common setup issues.
Install it from Microsoft Store, open the app, then look for the Clipboard Translator icon in the Windows system tray near the clock. Double-click the tray icon to open Settings, choose your source and target languages, paste your Google Cloud Translation API key if you have one, and save.
Ctrl + Alt + T is the main shortcut. Select text in any Windows app and press it to copy, translate and paste automatically. If no selected text is detected, Clipboard Translator translates the current clipboard content instead. You can change the shortcut in Settings.
Select text in any Windows app and press the main shortcut. Clipboard Translator copies the selection, translates it, and tries to paste the translation back over the selected text. If the focused app does not look editable, the translation stays in the clipboard and the app shows a notification.
Yes. Enable Show translation window if automatic paste is not possible in Settings. When Clipboard Translator cannot paste safely into the focused app, it will show the translated text in a popup window instead of only leaving it in the clipboard.
Open Google Cloud Console, create or select a project, enable billing if Google asks for it, enable Cloud Translation API, then create an API key in APIs & Services > Credentials. Paste the key into Google Cloud API key in Clipboard Translator Settings. Recommended: restrict the key so it can only use Cloud Translation API.
Open platform.openai.com/api-keys, create a new secret key and paste it into OpenAI API key in Settings. OpenAI API billing is separate from ChatGPT Plus or Pro.
Open Google AI Studio, create an API key and paste it into Gemini API key in Settings. The default model is gemini-2.5-flash; if it is temporarily overloaded, try another available model such as gemini-2.0-flash.
Google Translate Legacy is kept as a compatibility fallback and does not require an API key. It uses an unofficial public endpoint, so Google Cloud Translation with your own API key is recommended for regular use.
For the first 7 days, Clipboard Translator works as a full Pro trial with all providers and productivity features available. After the trial, the app continues working with a limit of 10 translations per day unless you upgrade to Pro Lifetime.
Pro Lifetime removes the daily limit permanently and keeps the full workflow available: all providers, translation history, preserve formatting, automatic copy-translate-paste, and future Pro features. Provider costs and quotas still depend on the API accounts and keys you configure.
No. It waits for your configured shortcut or menu action. The app does not continuously send clipboard content for translation.
API keys are stored locally and protected with Windows DPAPI for the current Windows user.
Yes. Translation history is stored locally on your computer only when you enable it. You can open and clear it from the tray menu.
Make sure text is selected, try Notepad first, release the shortcut keys after pressing them, check that another app is not using the same shortcut, and open diagnostics from the tray menu. Some apps do not allow selected text to be copied or replaced with standard Windows shortcuts, so automatic paste may not work everywhere.
OpenAI API billing is separate from ChatGPT subscriptions. Check your API billing, usage limits, available credits and the project associated with your API key.
The selected Gemini model may be temporarily overloaded. Wait and try again, or change the Gemini model in Settings.
Check that Cloud Translation API is enabled, the key is correct, the key is not restricted to the wrong API or referrer, and billing is enabled if Google requires it.
Clipboard Translator checks text size before sending it. Preventive limits are: Google Cloud Translation, 95,000 UTF-8 bytes per request; Google Translate Legacy, 5,000 characters; OpenAI, 350,000 characters.
